POOCH at the Rose City Classic Dog Show

Rebound
Board member Barbara Coles hands out brochures at the dog show.
THE ROSE CITY Classic Dog Show at the Portland Exposition Center, January 18-22 provided a wonderful opportunity for Project POOCH to meet thousands of dog lovers and to spread the message that even though mixed-breed shelter dogs can’t win prizes in AKC competitions, they can be champion family pets.

There were over 4,000 dogs, toys, terriers, herders, hounds, sporting and non-sporting breeds, at the Expo Center. The show featured conformation, agility, Rally-O, and obedience competitions with the agility and obedience winners qualifying for the American Kennel Club (AKC) national championships. Animal Planet sent a film crew and the show will be cablecast later this year.

Project POOCH volunteers passed out brochures and newsletters; sold t-shirts, hats, and other dog-related items, and raised nearly $1,000.

Thanks to the following volunteers who turned out to greet the public at the POOCH booth: Judy Barela, Roberta Blau, Barbara Coles, Barbara Finch, Annie Ingersoll, Paul Jones, Jeannie Krier, Tom Lang, Mallary London, and Susie Waki.
