THANKS TO THE VOLUNTEERS who turned out to represent Project POOCH at the annual
Northwest Pet & Companion Fair
at the Portland Expo Center on the weekend of April 22-23rd.
Our volunteers handed out brochures, answered questions about adopting Project POOCH dogs and how the program helps youth at MacLaren, and sold merchandise to raise funds and benefit POOCH. Among the products on sale were dog-print pillowcases handmade
by Sandy Zimmer, original jewelry created by Angie Arnold, tote bags sewn by
Nancy Czarnecki, dog biscuits and scarves made by Lake Oswego Girl Scout Troop 1129, as well as Rufus t-shirts, Rescue Me t-shirts (see illustration), dog toys and treats, dog harnesses, hats, flags, coin purses, and more.
The annual Pet Fair is an event that welcomes the whole family, even the family pets. Polite pets were admitted for $1 or 1
can of food for the "Animeals" Program (expanding "Meals on Wheels" to include the pets of the elderly and disabled and also to benefit animal rescue and
shelter programs). This year the Pet Fair featured 250 booths and workshops including a fashion
show, samples, raffles, adoption information, and even a pet-makeover contest.
