I can't keep my dog. Will Project POOCH take it?
Back to top...Answer: No, Project POOCH cannot accept dogs from private individuals. All our dogs come from shelters. They are often dogs that have been in the shelter for some time, and may be at risk of being euthanized.
We cannot take dogs from private parties because we are trying to teach the youth that dogs are a lifetime commitment regardless of situational changes. Many of these young men have themselves been abandoned by their families so accepting a dog that has been given up by its owners is very difficult on them.
What should I do if I suspect an animal is being abused or neglected?
Back to top...Answer: Animal cruelty by abuse or neglect is illegal in the State of Oregon and is considered a felony in 33 states.
To report an inhumane situation in the Portland, Oregon, metropolitan area, contact Oregon Humane Society (OHS) Investigations, (503) 285-7722, ext. 214 or fill out the online OHS Cruelty Complaint Form.
