Dog Rescue Groups - Why Adopt? -
The American Humane Association estimated that six million stray
dogs entered shelters in 1992. Sixty-one percent of the stray dogs were euthanized. In 1994,
approximately 88,994 dogs and cats entered animal shelters in Oregon; 29,803 were adopted;
45,245 had to be euthanized.
