Hi, I’m
ASPHALT!
I have a big personality wrapped up in a VERY small body! I just want to be treated like a big dog, who can adventure, and run, and jump. If you’re looking for that full-sized mentality in a fun-size package, we might be a match!
More about ASPHALT
Asphalt is a silly, adventurous, playful little dude. He is his own character and has charmed many of the youth into adoring him. At only 6 lbs, Asphalt rewrites expectations that small dogs are only purse dogs. He joins in on the walks and is a good partner to strut with. The youth are perfecting his leash manners, and he continues to learn more each day. He is incredibly treat-motivated and learns quickly. He's been working on adding to his trick list while at POOCH and would love to show them off to you! (If you're looking for a pint-sized dog to show up the big dogs in the trick department, Asphalt could be a great fit for you.)
Due to his small stature, Asphalt is looking for an adopter who will respect his autonomy and get consent before attempting to pick him up or leash him. He is not likely to be a dog who wants to be carted around, as there is much of the world to explore. When asked, and he consents, he is ok with being picked up for short periods of time, but quickly wants to return to the ground to blaze his own path.
We have found that he needs someone who will give him time to warm up and get comfortable before reaching out to him. With some trial and error, we have found some successful meet and greet protocols that help him put his best paw forward to make new friends.
He does best with a longer meet and greet, if not multiple. It is also likely that he will need to visit your home to build more positive associations before staying overnight. If you are willing to do that, he might be your best friend!
Because of his small size and his desire for humans to move slowly with him, a home with small children would not be a good fit.
DETAILS

Sex: Neutered Male
Size: 6lbs
Age: 1–2 years (appx)

Special Considerations
Children: Asphalt is very small so he would not necessarily do well in a home with rambunctious children who couldn’t respect his space. Children in the home should be 12 or older.
Other Dogs: Asphalt likes some dogs, but would not do well with a large, pushy dog. He can hold his own against a medium (25#) sized dog, but it requires the other dog to be respectful of the boundaries that Asphalt sets.
